8th Annual Missouri Chestnut Roast

Musical Entertainment:
Musical entertainment at the event will be provided by the Nine Mile Band. The band will perform inside the Band and Meeting Tent from 10:00 - 12:00 and on the stage located inside the Producer and Exhibitor Tent #1 starting from 2:00 - 4:00.
Cooking with Chestnuts Demonstrations:
11:00- 12:00 Executive Chef Eric Cartwright of the MU Dining Services - Plaza 900 Chef Cartwright and staff will prepare three unique chestnut dishes on the stage in the Producer and Exhibitor Tent #1. Free tasting samples after the demonstration while supplies last.

The house will be open from10:00 - 4:00 for walk through
Guided Bus Tours of the Farm:
Tour guides are Mike Gold, Mark Coggeshall, and Chris Starbuck, MU Center for Agroforestry; and Jerry Van Sambeek, U.S. Forest Service
Three yellow school buses designated for the tours will load and unload at the side of the white metal building on the event site starting at 10:00. There is no set departure times for the tours throughout the day and the buses will leave with a tour guide when the individual buses are filled with passengers. The tours will last for approximately 45 minutes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No pets or smoking allowed on the buses.
Guided Walking Tours of the Research Vineyard:
Andy Allen, MU Institute for Continental Climate Viticulture and Enology (ICCVE), will lead three 45-minute long walking tours that will depart from the ICCVE booth located inside the Producer and Exhibitor Tent #1. The tour times are: 11:30, 1:00 and 2:30

Wood-Mizer saw Demonstrations and other Equipment on Display:
Dusty Walter, Center for Agroforestry, will demonstrate a Wood-Mizer Saw at the top of the hour from 10:00 - 3:00. The location of the demonstration will be in the black walnut orchard located across from the metal building. Chestnut, walnut and pine straw harvesting equipment will also be on display in this area.
Forest and Woodland Association of Missouri:
A meeting will be held for organization members inside the Band and Meeting Tent starting at 1:00. The group will also have an information booth located in the Producer and Exhibitor Tent #1
Booths located in the various tents and the Food Concession Stand will be open from 10:00 - 4:00:
- Visit the Chestnut Roasting Booth for free samples of fresh roasted chestnuts
- Visit the Chestnut Booths to purchase fresh chestnuts
- Visit the producer booths for free tasting samples and to purchase wines; specialty beers, chestnut, pecan and black walnut products; goat cheeses, elderberry products; gourmet relishes and pepper jelly; BBQ sauces; green chili products; and many other gourmet products
- Many additional items for sale including Buck’s Ice Cream, potted chestnut trees, elderberry plants, dried native plant materials, Missouri wildflower plants; specialty wood products; fall decorating items; pumpkins; mums; and all natural bath and body products
- Numerous educational exhibits will be set up inside the various tents
- Free recipes and publications available at the MU Center for Agroforestry booth
- Visit the New Franklin High School Athletic Boosters Club food concession stand to purchase grilled elk, buffalo, and beef burgers and brats, hot and cold drinks, snacks
Children's Activities:
The Straw Bale Maze will be open from 10:00 - 4:00:
Children must be accompanied by an adult while playing in the maze. No rough play and please do not break apart the straw bales.
Producer and Exhibitor Tent #1:
- Free helium balloons for kids at the Buck’s Ice Cream booth (while supplies last)
- Electronic animal tracking demonstration at the School of Natural Resources booth
Producer and Exhibitor Tent #2:
- Nut cracking and Nut Wizard tool activity at the MO Nut Growers Association booth
Free Children's Activities Information Tent:
- Chestnut Roast Fact Hunt - pick up your kit (while supplies last) and when finished, check answers there and receive your prize
- Copies of a Farm Bureau coloring book are available (while supplies last) in the Information Tent
